Mormon Channel

 We wanted to make you sisters aware of a wonderful resource. The church sponsors an internet radio station. It's called The Mormon Channel. Every month The Mormon Channel broadcasts a Relief Society program that works with the visiting teaching message for that month -- using quotes from the Relief Society General Presidency and General Authorities.

Listen by going to: http://radio.lds.org/eng/programs and then scroll down and click on the Relief Society Seal.

A Preview from our Emergency/ Disaster Prepardeness workshop

Watch the slide show below to see pictures from our recent Emergency/ Disaster Preparedness Workshop. Put your mouse over an image to read the caption. All of these images are of things you should learn about when you attend the classes taught in your wards. Make sure you go when they are offered so you can feel prepared in case of a disaster or emergency!

Stake RS Emergency/ Disaster Prepardeness Training Workshop

1-11-11
 Stake RS Emergency/Disaster Preparedness Training Workshop

We would like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Paula Faddis and Linda Scadden and their amazing Emergency/Disaster Preparedness committee:
Shelter - Karen Siirola and Nancy Weitzel
Water - Liz Anderson and Missy Peck
Sanitation - Doris Woffinden and Mary Pinkham
Alternative Cooking - Sherri Cook and Rain Jeppson

We all had a wonderful, informative, and empowering night of TRAINING.  Our greatest provident living hopes (thus far) for 2011 are:

1) That the four participants from each ward that were invited to attend by their ward RS presidents will be excited to return to their home wards and help strengthen the sisters in the areas that they were trained in under the direction received from her RS presidency.

2) That we may unite as a stake in helping each woman feel that they can live providently, achieve goals that they have set for their own families, and that we are all in this together to help, love, serve and support one another.

3) As of 1-11-11, there are now 100 more women in our stake that have a lot more knowledge in one of our four areas of focus: shelter, water, sanitation and alternative cooking, than they had before.  Let's have that number be in the 1000's before the end of the year.

With our love, Lisa Hunt, Barbara Chamberlain, Jocelyn Walker, Kay Sampson and Brooke Ochs

Stake Women's Conference

Mark your calendars, sisters! Our Stake Women's Conference is this month on Saturday, January 29th. We are so excited for this year's conference. Sister Virginia Hinckley Pearce is coming to speak to us and we just know it is going to be so wonderful.

Sign up sheets should have been coming around in Relief Society and will continue to come around for the next Sunday or two. Please make sure you sign up and account for any guests you want to bring. It will help us so much to have a count of sisters planning to attend. We hope to see you all there.

Presidency Message -- January

Dear Sisters:

We hope that the Christmas season found you surrounded by family and friends and that His spirit was felt in great abundance as you celebrated His birth.

As I was reading this week's church news, the article entitled “Christmas is Always Near” caught my eye and I wanted to share a few thoughts from it with you all.

“On that first Christmas, the angels sang, “Peace on earth, good will to men.”  The peace Christ brought, and still brings, was not intended for just one silent night and one glorious day.

President David O. McKay said: “At Christmastime, more than at any other, we think of others and try to express either in word or deed our desire to make others happy.  Herein lies the secret of true happiness.  ‘He that will lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s shall find it,’ is sound philosophy, which the true Christmas spirit helps us to understand.”

These thoughts of CHRISTMAS AS A YEAR-LONG EVENT have been expressed:

Christmas is not a day or a season,
but a condition of heart and mind.
If we love our neighbors as ourselves;
If in our riches we are poor in spirit
And in our poverty we are rich in grace;
If our charity vaunteth not itself,
But suffereth long and is kind;
If when our brother asks for a loaf,
We give ours instead;
If each day dawns in opportunity
And sets in achievement
however small;
Then every day is Christ’s day &
Christmas is always near.

Poem by John Wallingford; quoted by President Howard W. Hunter 1993

As we begin a new year, may we keep and magnify the love, peace, charity and joy in our hearts that we have felt during the past few weeks, for it truly does embody the spirit and the work of Relief Society as well.

With much love,
Sister Lisa Hunt
